Living as a PDAer can be very hard, very tricky, and difficult to navigate – It can turn into continuous cycles of hardship unless adaptations, understanding and help is available or put in place. When it’s hard:
• They get stressed or anxious & anxiety builds
• Adds to their emotional bucket
• They make excuses, procrastinate or refuse
• The demand is tackled in their own time and way
• The demand is not done at all, and they do something else
• They can get angry, upset or shutdown
How can PDAers manage:
• Ask for more choices
• Do something calming
• Talk about their struggles
• Try an alternative way
• Take a breather
• Be creative and use out of the box thinking
• Use sensory tools to regulate
• Chill, draw, bake or something they love
